Position Summary: This level describes advanced Occupational Therapist who independently performs duties such as screening, evaluation, program planning, and intervention at the full performance level and may handle the complex cases
Principal Accountabilities:
CLINICAL
1. Manages assigned caseload of patients effectively and efficiently to ensure delivery of a high standard of care.
2. Independently assesses, re-assesses and provides therapeutic analysis for individual patients to determine their need for Occupational Therapy Intervention and formulates appropriate treatment.
3. Independently plans and implements treatment to maximize functional independence and rehabilitation potential according to evidence-based practice.
4. Provides patient and family education
5. Carries out a comprehensive discharge plan and provides support to Junior Therapists in this regard.
6. Attends ward rounds, outpatient clinics, case conferences, etc for the purpose of sharing clinical information with interdisciplinary team members.
7. Designs and creates splints and aids. Recommends and trains in the use of special adaptive devices, equipment and environmental adaptations.
8. Responsible for patient documentation, records and statistical information.
9. Communicates and makes recommendations to all relevant disciplines of staff to maximize patient care and promotes team work.
10. Conducts home, school and work evaluation to ensure maximal function and integration.
11. Provides specific clinical instructions, recommendations and advice to those involved in continuity of care.
12. Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate clinical guidelines.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.MANAGERIAL
1. Assists Unit Supervisor and Specialist in delegating appropriate tasks and supervising junior staff.
2. Assists Unit Supervisor and Specialist in monitoring clinical assessments, treatment approaches and procedures carried out by subordinate therapists in their specialty area.
3. Conducts regular chart audit to support the Occupational Therapy quality improvement plan.
4. Contributes information for the preparation of monthly Unit Reports.
5. Participates in the departmental Personal Development and Performance Review system to promote personal and service developments.EDUCATIONAL
1. Assists the Specialist in initiating, and developing educational materials.
2. Responsible for developing and updating clinical knowledge in a specialized field to ensure delivery of evidence based care and professional growth and development.
3. Acts as a mentor to junior therapists, technicians and Developee.
4. Assists in educating other disciplines to enhance comprehensive patient care.
5. Participates in research activities to enhance clinical outcomes and promote evidence based clinical practice.
6. Organizes and prepares patient/family educational programs.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Minimum Education: A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a nationally approved College or University and accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy
Preferred Education:
Minimum Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience as an Occupational Therapist
Preferred Experience: Experience in an area of specialty
Computer Skills: Basic Computer Skills
Required Certification or Licensure or Registration: License: (E)
Language Skills:
