    The European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps (EVHAC) is an initiative developed by the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) of the European Commission. Volunteers working under the EVHAC project will be placed directly with VSO”s partner organisations in Bangladesh or South Sudan, and will be supported by VSO offices in each of those countries.
    VSO is the world”s leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. VSO”s high-impact approach involves bringing people together to share skills, build capabilities, promote international understanding and action, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. VSO has around 1,500 volunteers working with partners in 36 countries.
    Community Mobilization Adviser
    Employer: Pairabond Jono Kallan Unnayon Sangstha (PJKUS)
    Location: Rangpur, Bangladesh
    Start date: 27th September 2012
    Length: 13 months( including one month in-country training)
    As Community Mobilization Adviser on Health, you will work with the NGO PJKUS. PJKUS works to empower poor and disadvantaged women, adolescents and children to access their rights to education and services.
    What does the role involve?
    You will develop a strategy for a community-based approach to health provision. To do this you will:
    • Identify and analyse the existing approach to health provision within the community
    • Develop a strategy for a community-based approach to develop better health services
    • Build staff capacity and understanding of health education and the need for a community based approach
    • Build the capacity of staff through training, and mentoring
    • Support youth volunteers to write case studies on community learning and good practice.
    Skills, qualifications and experience required
    You will have a strong educational background in public health/social science, combined with previous work experience in community-based healthcare. You will have some experience of training, facilitation and report-writing. You will need to be a flexible, supportive and patient person with a passion for working with marginalised people in diverse communities who have limited resources. The working environment is likely to be informal so you will need to be proactive, but at the same time inclusive and participatory in your approach.

    You’ll be based in Rangpur District in Bangladesh. We’ll ask you to commit 13 months (including one month’s in-country training) to make a sustainable contribution to development goals and in return we’ll provide you with invaluable training before your placement, a local living allowance, return flights, accommodation and insurance. When you return to your home country we’ll help you resettle and we’ll invite you to stay involved with us through campaigning, development awareness raising and fundraising.
