Von Dublin aus bin ich zu einem Roadtrip in den S\u00fcden und dann an der Westk\u00fcste entlang bis hoch nach Galway gefahren. Von dort aus ging&#8217;s quer durch&#8217;s Land zur\u00fcck nach Dublin. Begeistert von Land und Leuten war ich ab dem 1. Tag meiner Reise. Und nach meinem Roadtrip dachte ich immer wieder: Gerne w\u00fcrde ich mal Nordirland bereisen.<\/p>\n<p>Im letzten Herbst konnte ich dies endlich in die Tat umsetzen. Und von Nordirland war ich mindestens ebenso begeistert wie von der Republik Irland. Nordirland im Herbst bot eine Menge \u00dcberraschungen, auch was das Wetter betrifft. Mal war es st\u00fcrmisch und der Regen peitschte einem um die Ohren, mal war es sonnig mild, mal heiter bis wolkig.<\/p>\n<p>Das Wetter schlug seine Kapriolen und wechselte teilweise st\u00fcndlich. Irland-Kennern muss ich nicht erw\u00e4hnen, dass man in jedem Fall wetterfeste und wasserdichte Outdoor-Kleidung mit nach Irland nehmen sollte. Da verh\u00e4lt sich Irland \u00e4hnlich wie andere Reiseziele im Norden.<\/p>\n<p>Bei meinem Roadtrip durch Nordirland bin ich von Belfast aus gestartet und an der K\u00fcste entlang nach Norden und dann weiter in Richtung Westen bis nach Derry-Londonderry gefahren. Von dort aus ging&#8217;s einmal durch Nordirland in s\u00fcd\u00f6stlicher Richtung bis nach Newcastle an der Ostek\u00fcste.<\/p>\n<p>Von dort aus bin ich wieder zur\u00fcck nach Belfast, dem Start- und Zielpunkt meiner Reise. Die Stadt hat knapp 350.000 Einwohner und ist nach Dublin die zweitgr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt auf der irischen Insel. Sie liegt an der M\u00fcndung des Flusses Lagan. Belfast besitzt sch\u00f6ne Geb\u00e4ude wie die City Hall Belfast, die du hier siehst, die Queens University und das Grand Opera House. Ein Stadtbummel durch&#8217;s Zentrum von Belfast lohnt sich deshalb. Auf dem Gel\u00e4nde der fr\u00fcheren Harland &amp; Wolff Werft kann man sich in dem Museum auf die Spuren des Mythos Titanic begeben. Eine tolle Ausstellung, die sich sehr lohnt.<\/p>\n<p>Durch Glasfenster hindurch kann man sehen, an welcher Stelle die Titanic erbaut und vom Stapel gelassen wurde. Um das Museum herum ist das Titanic Quarter entstanden, ein neues Stadtviertel mit Caf\u00e9s, Kneipen, dem Titanic Hotel und einem der gr\u00f6\u00dften Filmstudios Europas, den Pain Hall Studios. Diese Wandgem\u00e4lde abzuwandern ist wie eine kleine Zeitreise in die j\u00fcngere Geschichte Irlands. Besuchen sollte man auch die Peace Line, die ehemalige Trennungsmauer, welche die Wohngebiete katholischer Republikaner und protestantischer Unionisten trennte.<\/p>\n<p>Da Belfast eine ziemlich spannende Stadt ist, m\u00f6chte ich sie dir demn\u00e4chst in einem weiteren Artikel noch mal genauer vorstellen. Die K\u00fcstenstra\u00dfe f\u00fchrt durch den Norden Irlands und verbindet Belfast mit Derry-Londonderry. Sie ist geh\u00f6rt zu den sch\u00f6nsten K\u00fcstenstra\u00dfen Europas und ist bei Reisenden sehr beliebt. Von Belfast \u00fcber Larne, Glendarm, Cushendall, Cushendun und Ballycastle geht&#8217;s bis zum n\u00f6rdlichsten Punkt der Insel. Eine wundersch\u00f6ne Strecke, die mich sehr begeistert hat.<\/p>\n<p>Entlang der K\u00fcste k\u00f6nnen GOT-Fans \u00fcbrigens auch viele <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reisereporter.de\/artikel\/8151-nordirland-willkommen-in-westeros-reise-zu-den-drehorten-von-game-of-thrones\">Game of Thrones Film Locations<\/a> ansteuern. Sie besagt, dass der Riese Fionn von seinem schottischen Widersacher Benandonner \u00fcbel beleidigt wurde. Dank der GOT-Serie z\u00e4hlt die Allee zu den meistfotografierten Naturwurdern und zu den beliebtesten Nordirland Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten. Aber es gibt einen Aussichtspunkt, von dem aus das Foto gemacht ist. Man schaut in Richtung Westen und sieht in der Ferne den Whiterocks Beach und ganz hinten ein St\u00fcck von Portrush. Der Sturm hatte sich gelegt und ich konnte noch ein St\u00fcck am Strand entlang wandern. Teilweise kann man an den Felsformationen entlangklettern und findet kleine H\u00f6hlen. Es liegt auf einem H\u00fcgel in Downhill bei Castlerock am Meer. Bei meiner Ankunft d\u00e4mmerte es schon. Das dazugeh\u00f6rige <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Downhill_House\">Downhill House<\/a> war schon von weitem sichtbar. Es ist ein Herrenhaus, welches heute als Ruine eher an eine Festung erinnert. Erbaut wurde es im 18. Jahrhundert von Frederick Hervey, dem 3. Das runde Geb\u00e4ude war fr\u00fcher eine Bibliothek und ist Frederick Herveys Cousine Frideswide Mussenden gewidmet. Heute geh\u00f6ren Tempel und Downhill House dem National Trust. Sie hat rund 85.000 Einwohner und ist nach Belfast die zweitgr\u00f6\u00dfte Stadt Nordirlands. Sch\u00f6n ist ihre Lage man River Foyle, an dem man auch klasse spazieren, radfahren oder auch laufen kann. Jahrhundert gibt es einige Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten zu entdecken. Dazu geh\u00f6ren u.a. St. Columb&#8217;s Cathedral, Tower Museum, Harbour House, Millenium Forum und das Ringfort Grian\u00e1n von Aileach.<\/p>\n<p>Sch\u00f6n fand ich auch die <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelling-britain.com\/guildhall-derry\/\">Guildhall<\/a>, das historische Rathaus hier auf dem Foto. Auf diesem Platz befindet sich auch das <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diamond_War_Memorial\">Diamond War Memorial<\/a>. Es wurde 1927 errichtet und erinnert an die Soldaten der beiden Weltkriege. Im Stadtteil Bogside an der Kreuzung von Lecky Road, Rossville Street und Fahan Street gibt es die <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Free_Derry_Corner\">Free Derry Corner<\/a>. Sie erinnert an ein selbsternanntes, autonomes Viertel von Derry, das es zwischen 1969 und 1972 gab.<\/p>\n<p>Entlang der Rossville Street finden sich auch die Bogside Murals, jene Wandgem\u00e4lde, die an die Zeit des Konflikts erinnern. Hier befinden sich auch Bloody Sunday Memorial, H Block Monument und das Museum of Free Derry. Zum Abschluss meiner Rundreise bin ich noch einmal quer durch Nordirland gefahren. Mein Ziel: Newcastle im County Down an der Ostk\u00fcste. Das Seebad liegt s\u00fcdlich von Belfast am Fu\u00df des Slieve Donard (849 Meter), des h\u00f6chsten Berges in Nordirland. Ein beschaulicher Ort mit einer Hauptstra\u00dfe und ein paar Seitenstra\u00dfen. Sch\u00f6ne Strandpromenade, Caf\u00e9s, Pubs und ein paar Outdoor-Gesch\u00e4ften. Besonders sch\u00f6n fand ich auch den K\u00fcstenabschnitt s\u00fcdlich von Newcastle an der Bloody Bridge. Dort ist die K\u00fcste &#8211; wie im hohen Norden von Irland &#8211; wieder rauh und unb\u00e4ndig. Irland eben &#8211; macht aber nicht&#8217;s. Ich hatte noch einen Tag vor meinem Abflug, um in den Mourne Mountains zu wandern. Geplant war eine Tageswanderung im Silent Valley zum Slieve Donard.<\/p>\n<p>An diesem Tag hat es aber wie aus K\u00fcbeln geregnet, was man auf den Fotos hier nicht wirklich sieht. Auch die Nacht davor regenete es, sodass Stra\u00dfen \u00fcberflutet und Feldwege teilweise v\u00f6llig aufgeweicht waren.
